Don’t Expect a VA to Magically Fix Your Marketing

Lead Well. Work Simply. Scale Smart.

I didn’t exactly plan for my newsletter to become a weekly rundown of my most expensive business mistakes... but hey, here we are.

At least you get to learn from them without the bill or the headache.

This week’s hard-earned lesson? Skimping on marketing support.

I’ve hired execution help when what I really needed was someone to help me think, plan, and get clear.
And surprise—it backfired. Because no matter how skilled the VA or contractor, they can’t make up for fuzzy strategy.

Now, nearly every client who comes to us for VA support asks, “Can they help with content?”

And I always say: Yes… but.

If you know me at all, you’ve probably heard me say:

“I’m not going to invoice just to invoice.”

I’m not here to sell you busywork (cause honestly that'll just annoy the both of us and I don't have the energy to deal with that). I need to be confident that we’re actually helping you move the needle.

I’m here to help you clarify and simplify how you’re going to kickass in business.

And that starts with knowing whether you need someone to build the plan or someone to run with it.

So this week, we’re digging into simplifying your marketing—and making sure you hire the right help for the right job.

Going Live With Paige Wiese Tomorrow

Paige is the founder and CEO of Tree Ring Digital, a web and marketing agency that’s been helping businesses show up online without losing their minds for over a decade.

She’s joining me live on the Strategy, Solutions, & Sanity podcast to share her own sanity-losing moments in the digital marketing world and what strategies she's encouraging her clients (and own team) to take!

Join us live on LinkedIn, Wednesday 9am PST/12pm EST!

👀 Psst — I could use your help for a sec.

I’m mapping out a new resource for small team owners on how to structure their teams for maximum ROI (where to use AI, VAs, or hire in-house). Before I build it, I want to make sure it’s actually worth your time.

Would you mind clicking below to tell me what format would be most valuable? It takes two seconds — and it’ll shape what I create next.

Catch The Quickcast: Can a VA Help With Content?

Delegating your marketing should feel like a relief—not a gamble.
In this Quickcast, I break down how to make sure you’re setting your VA (and your content) up for success before you hit “assign.”

The Quickcast Gist

VAs are great executors and sometimes sharp contributors. But if you’re expecting them to build your content strategy or conversion funnel from scratch… that’s a strategist’s job.

Put It Into Practice

  1. Listen to the episode for the 3 things you need before handing content off to a VA (they’re right in the first 90 seconds).
  2. Ask yourself: Am I struggling with content because I’m at capacity? Or because it’s just not resonating?
  3. If it’s a strategy issue, fix that first—then bring in a VA to help you execute like a boss.

You don’t need a fancy system. You just need one that works on purpose. I dove deeper into this concept in "Why Scaling Just Multiplies Pain".
