Zoom Out 🔍Before You Burn Out 🔥

Business should be simple. And fun.

Last year, I worked with a business that was trying to sort out its management team, new processes, and some badly needed admin help.

The owner brought in someone senior to help set direction and build strategy… but instead of leading the big picture, they got pulled into the weeds every single day.

Scheduling issues.
Customer complaints.
Little SOPs for one-off problems.

They felt like they were needed in every fire. But what actually happened?
The real outcomes they wanted (like a stronger team, clarity, and growth), kept getting pushed aside.

They were so zoomed in on trivial issues that all they built were band-aid fixes.

And if I’m being honest? This isn’t just their problem. It's not even a unique problem.

At least once a quarter, I catch myself obsessing over something that’s either (a) not a real problem or (b) not *my* problem.

What helped them move forward (and what I remind myself to do):

  • Hand off admin details to someone who can own them.
  • Equip managers to solve their own problems.
  • Set boundaries: if a problem can’t be solved in 15 minutes (or less), pause and ask if it’s even yours to solve.

Because when you stay too zoomed in, you miss the bigger picture...and you end up spinning your wheels dealing with the same problems over and over again.

Quickcast: How Delegation Helps You Zoom Out and Think Like a CEO

(Watch Time: 5:29)

video preview

Ok, yes, delegation frees up your time, it gets stuff of your plate, and you also feel kinda cool saying "I'll have my assistant get back to you".

Buuuutttt, delegation also has some other cool positive symptoms. And in this quickcast I'm sharing how letting go (the right way) gives you back time for strategy and creativity.

Plus, a few practical steps to make delegation less scary 👻and way more effective.

  • Past QuickCast Pick — Delegation can be scary if you don't know where to start and especially if you don't know how you can possibly even trust someone in all the messy parts of your business. In last week's Quickcast I broke down how you can know if an assistant is actually trustworthy (and how to build on that trust).
  • 🛠 Try out Monday.com - when it comes to organizing your brain, big picture goals, and tasks to delegate, monday.com is a go-to. In my opinion, it takes the cake on versatility, ease of use, and customization for task management platforms.

It’s easy to feel productive when you’re fixing little problems all day… but if the big picture keeps slipping, you’re not actually moving forward.

This week, ask yourself: Am I building solutions that last, or just patching holes?

Zoom out, hand things off, and give yourself space to actually lead. That’s where the real progress shows up.
